Not sure which plate suits your room?

Five questions. We match you to one of the twenty-two species and send the story behind the plate.

From the archive

We restore plates. We do not redraw them.

Old Man Banksia was illustrated for the Joseph Banks Florilegium in 1773. The original sat in a collection for two centuries before it was scanned.

We corrected the colour, recovered lost detail, and printed it at 6000 by 9000 pixels. Nothing in the range is AI-generated and nothing is stock.

The honest version

I got tired of green claims that meant nothing. Tired of prints made from stock photos and tees that fell apart in three washes.

Birch & Banksia is the brand I wanted to buy from: real species, real certifications, made when you order it, and I'll tell you exactly where every part comes from.

I'm still learning, still improving, and I'll always tell you the honest version.

Common questions

What makes Birch & Banksia different from other art and apparel brands?

Every product starts with a real botanical species, sourced from historic plates and living landscapes across Australia and Canada. Our prints are made to order on FSC-certified archival paper, and our apparel uses GOTS-certified organic cotton printed with OEKO-TEX safe inks. We don't hold inventory, we don't overproduce, and we donate 1% of every sale to reforestation. It's a slower way to run a business, but it means nothing gets made until someone actually wants it

What does "made to order" mean?

It means we don't print anything until you order it. No warehouse full of unsold stock, no overproduction, no waste. Your print or garment is produced specifically for you, which dispatches in 7 to 10 business days. It takes a little longer than fast fashion, but nothing ends up in landfill because we guessed wrong.

How long until my order arrives?

Honestly, longer than Amazon and shorter than most indie brands. Every print and garment is made to order, so it dispatches in 7 to 10 business days. After that, delivery depends on where you are.

Your order is produced at the facility closest to you, which keeps both the transit time and the carbon footprint down. Australian orders are printed in Australia, so transit after dispatch is domestic.

If something's running late, we'll email you. If it's really late, we'll make it right.

Are your sustainability claims verified?

Yes, and we'll always tell you exactly how. Our paper is FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council), our cotton is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard, verified from farm to finished garment), and our inks are OEKO-TEX certified free from harmful substances. We're not perfect and we're still working toward fully carbon-neutral shipping, but we'll never make a claim we can't back up.

What's your return policy?

Because every print and garment is made to order specifically for you, we can't restock or resell returns, so we handle them case by case rather than with a blanket policy.

If your order arrives damaged, misprinted, or not as described, email us with a photo within 14 days and we'll replace it or refund you, no arguments. If you simply change your mind, get in touch anyway and we'll work something out. We'd rather you ended up with something you love than a print gathering dust in a drawer.

We're a small operation and we'd rather fix problems than hide behind fine print.

Do you ship internationally?

We do. Our print-on-demand partners have production facilities in Australia, North America, and Europe, so your order is printed at the location closest to you, reducing both shipping time and carbon footprint. Every order dispatches in 7 to 10 business days, with regional transit time on top.
